The ingredients needed to cook Kat vada:
  1. Prepare For kat :-
  2. Provide 4 tbsp oil +1 tsp oil
  3. Use 1 medium size sliced onion
  4. Provide 4-5 garlic clove
  5. Provide 1/2 inch ginger
  6. Use 1/4 cup shredded coconut
  7. Get 1 tbsp kanda lasun masala
  8. Prepare 1 tbsp red chilli powder
  9. Get as per taste Salt
  10. Prepare For garnishing :-
  11. Take as required Finely chopped coriander
  12. Use as required Sev or farsan
  13. Prepare 1 Chopped oinon
  14. Provide For For Batata Vada stuffing :-
  15. Get 4-5 boiled & smashed potatoes
  16. Use 4-5 garlic cloves
  17. Take 1/2 inch ginger
  18. Provide 1 tsp coriander seeds
  19. Get 1 tsp fennel seeds
  20. Take 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  21. Provide 4-5 green chillies
  22. Take 1/4 tsp hing
  23. You need 4-5 curry leaves
  24. You need 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  25. You need as required Finely chopped coriander
  26. You need as per taste Salt
  27. Take For batter :-
  28. Take 1 cup besan/chick pea flour
  29. Take 1 tbsp rice flour
  30. Use 1 pinch baking soda
  31. Use as per taste Salt
  32. Provide 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
Instructions to make Kat vada:
  1. Heat oil in a pan. Add onion, garlic, ginger and saute onion till it translucent.
  2. Now add coconut and mix well and fry it 2 minutes.
  3. Turn of the flame and let the masala cool down.
  4. Transfer the masala in a blender and make a fine paste.
  5. Heat oil in a pan, add blended masala and mix well, fry the masala well for 3-4 minutes, add kanda lasun masala, turmeric, red chilli powder, salt and mix well, now add hot water and boil the kat on medium flame for 5 minutes.
  6. For Batata Vada stuffing: -In blender add garlic, ginger, chillies, fennel seeds, cumin seeds, coriander seeds and blend it coarsely.
  7. Heat oil in a pan, add hing, curry leaves, coarse paste, turmeric, mix well, turn off the flame. add salt, chopped coriander and mashed potatoes and mix well.
  8. Stuffing is ready, now make a little big vada from this.
  9. For besan batter: -Take besan into a bowl, add rice flour, salt, turmeric, soda, mix well and add a little water at a time.
  10. The consistency of the batter should be a little thick.
  11. For kat vada: -Heat oil in a pan, dip the vade in the batter and drop them in hot oil and fry till golden brown.
  12. Batata vada is ready, serve some hot kat into serving dish, add vada in it, garnish Kat Vada with chopped onion, sev, lemon and coriander.
